    ILISH MACHER JHOL 

    Ilish or Hilsa is known as the queen of fishes in bengal. For fish lovers here, a monsoon without ilish is unthinkable. 

    Preparation time: 40 minutes (Serves 2) 

    Ingredients:

           1 medium Hilsa (Ilish fish)

           1 potato (cubes)

           3 tsp turmeric powder

           1 tsp coriander powder

           1 tsp cumin powder

           6 tbsp mustard oil

           1 onion (wet ground)

           3 cloves of garlic (wet ground)

           30 gms ginger (wet ground)

           1 tbsp fresh coriander

           1 lime (cut into wedges)

    Salt as required 

    Preparation:

           Clean the fish with water and pat dry

           Marinate fish pieces with salt and turmeric

           Heat some mustard oil in a kadhai

           Fry fish pieces and set aside

           In the same oil, fry cubes of vegetables and set aside

           In a bowl, make a paste of dry powdered spices, ginger, onion and garlic

           In this pan, heat some mustard oil and temper with mustard, green chillies and kalonji. Add the masala paste and cook for 5 minutes

           Stir well

           Add water and cook for 5 minutes

           Add the vegetables and the fish

           Cover and let it simmer for the next 5 minutes

           Cover it with lid and cook for 2-3 more minutes

           Finish with coriander

           Serve with lime and green chilli 

    For Tempering

    Ingredients:

           Black mustard (rye)

           3 green chillies

     

           1 tsp kalonji
